Obituary

Nathaniel (Nathan) Richard McGarrett, 14, of Tomball, TX, was granted his angel wings on the 1st day of August 2017 as he lay surrounded by his loving family. As Nathaniel fought his seventeen-month long battle with cancer, he greeted each day with a positive attitude and a relentless determination. Nathaniel was a real warrior among warriors; he never allowed the very real possibilities to become an anchor or a deterrent. Nathaniel's contagious smile and positive attitude were the first traits one would notice from the moment they met him.

Nathaniel was born February 11, 2003, and his true passion from a very young age has always been the armed forces. He held a respect for the brave men and women who serve, admiring their values and what they stood for. Nathaniel's bravery, strength, and courage demonstrated in these last seventeen months displayed the type of soldier he would have become. Even after being told he was now unable to serve, Nathaniel did not let it slow him down or deter him from being active in service. Nathaniel excelled in the Willow Wood Junior High LOTC program where he was promoted to Cadet Sergeant First Class, inspiring to earn the rank of Gunnery Sergeant by his junior year of high school. We do not believe there was a single soul that doubted he would achieve this goal.
Outside of school, Nathaniel was also active in the Tomball Police Department Explorer program and Civil Air Patrol, where both his commanding officers and peers alike had high expectations of what he would accomplish. Nathaniel's hobbies included playing airsoft with his friends, listening to music, and browsing the interwebs for the latest and greatest memes.

Nathaniel is survived by his loving parents, Steve and Holly McGarrett; sister Kaylei (Kikki) McGarrett; godparents Mark and CJ Bailey; puppies Teddy and Lillyh McGarrett; best friend Luke Worrell; maternal great grandmother Freda Ogden; paternal grandparents Wayne and Judi Schwindt; aunts Tammy McGarrett, Debbie Harwood, Michelle McGarrett, and Chandra Felton; cousins Jessica Ricks, Christopher McGarrett, Jesse McGarrett, Veronica Smith, Talin Olson, Stevie Olson, Nikki Felton, Haeley Olson, Brittni Walls, and Elizabeth Walls.
Nathaniel joined heaven with his maternal grandparents, Richard and Charlotte Ogden.
